At least 17 people were killed and three others were missing as cyclone Laila left a trail of devastation in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh damaging road networks and destroying crops. <br/><br/>State Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha said that seven people were killed in Krishna district, including five in a wall collapse in Vijayawada city, while four persons lost their lives in Nellore, three in Guntur, two in East Godavari and one in Prakasam district. <br/><br/>Two persons were missing in Krishna district and one in East Godavari since Thursday when the cyclone made the landfall in Macchalipatnam area. Official sources said crops suffered extensive damage while road network remained badly battered due to heavy rains caused by the cyclonic storm. Many colonies in Ongole town in Prakasam district which bore the brunt of Laila remained marooned due to a constant downpour in the last two days. <br/><br/>Over 300 Army personnel, besides teams of National Disaster Response Force, have been rushed to Ongole for rescue and relief operations. <br/><br/>Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who planned to undertake an aerial survey in Prakasam district, put off his journey due to bad weather. He reviewed the situation with his Cabinet colleagues and top officials in the state secretariat. <br/><br/>With the weather office forecasting more rain, Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister D. Prasada Rao said the threat for Andhra Pradesh was not yet over. <br/><br/>Authorities have kept ready 10 helicopters while armed forces have moved three columns and mobilised four helicopters. Over 100 trains have been cancelled while several other trains were diverted. <br/><br/>The movement of trains between Chennai and Vijayawada has come to a complete halt. AIR Hyderabad correspondent reports that about 51,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas to about 260 relief camps in Nellore , Prakasam, Guntur , Krishna and West Godavari districts.<br/><br/><br/>In Tamil Nadu, rain lashed several coastal districts including Chennai. 9 people died in the state in rain related incidents. <br/><br/>The director of IMD in New Delhi, Mr B.P.Yadav said, the depression is moving towards Orissa. Under the impact of Laila, Southern and Northern parts of Orissa also received heavy rainfall. <br/><br/>The Bhubaneswar Met office has predicted heavy rainfall over south and coastal Orissa with a wind speed of 50 to 60 km in the next 24 hours.
