Laila centred near Machilipatnam in AP; Likely to weaken and move towards Orissa

Cyclonic Storm Laila remained practically stationary and lay centered near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh. The system is likely to weaken and move initially in a northerly direction and then head in a north easterly direction towards Orissa. Under its influence wide spread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy falls and isolated extremely heavy fall is likely over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during next 24 hours. Wide spread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over South coastal Andhra Pradesh during the same period. Wind speed will be reaching 75 to 85 KMs per hour along and off Andhra Pradesh coast in the next 12 hours as the sea condition will be rough along Andhra Pradesh coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. <br/> In Tamil Nadu, rain lashed several coastal districts including Chennai. The Southern Railway has cancelled a couple of trains leaving Chennai to Andhra Pradesh. A few other trains plying through Andhra Pradesh were diverted. A special information centre has been set up at Chennai central railway station to provide information on train services affected due to the cyclone. Bhubaneswar Met Office has predicted heavy rainfall over south and coastal Orissa with a wind speed of 50 to 60 km in the next 24 hours. <br/>
