Ladakh UT to get its own Meteorological Centre today

Union Territory Ladakh is to get its own Meteorological Centre today. Indian met department in Srinagar was dependent of defence establishments in  Ladakh for weather readings in the vastly spread region.<br />''<br />''AIR correspondent reports, Union Earth Sciences Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, will virtually inaugurate the newly established  Indian Meteorological Department for Ladakh, in Leh today.<br />''<br />''The IMD will have four Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) operating in Leh, Kargil, Drass and Stakna. <br />''<br />''Real time weather information from these stations will be available online for every fifteen minutes and hourly basis through the IMD website.<br />''<br />''The new Met centre will provide all information relating to weather and climate  for entire Ladakh region including far-off places like Changthag, Nubra, Zanskar, Zojila and Drass.<br />''<br />''Officials said that by next year IMD will further improve infrastructure and equipment to make it a scientific hub, especially in basic atmospheric sciences to schools, colleges and University level students to study the unique weather conditions of Ladakh region.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur, MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and senior officials of the ministry also participate in the virtual event.</span><br />
