Ladakh Union Territory Secretary Ajeet Kumar Sahu launched Jal Jeevan Maah, in Leh today. Celebrating Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's 153rd Jayanthi, Leh district is observing Jal Jeevan Maah from 2nd to 31st this month. Speeding up of Har Ghar Nal works, awareness campaigns and water conservation are some of the activities planned during the month-long observation.<br />''<br />''Speaking at the launch of Jal Jeevan Maah in Spituk Farkha, the Secretary appealed to the public to actively participate in the public movement for safe drinking water and audit the JJM construction activities. Considering the winters, Mr. Sahu appealed to the public to take tap connections inside the house to maintain above zero degree temperatures and avoid freezing. He suggested green houses, or covering construction above the tap connection point also help in maintaining water flow. He asked the villages to conserve water, reuse grey water and protect water sources to maintain healthy supply of water.<br />''<br />''Mr. Sahu said, the Government of India is spending Four lakh rupees per tap connection in Ladakh against the average of 10 thousand in the rest of the country. He said, so far 60 percent of tap connections are completed and 100 percent coverage will be achieved by next year. He informed, Ladakh is in 18th position in providing tap connections in the country.<br />''<br />''Speaking on the occasion, Phyang Councillor Tundup Cheeta appealed to the UT administration to run the JJM Help Line continuously to clear doubts on the quality of water and pani samiti bank accounts. He suggested authorities to consider the pockets of growing town requirements while planning water supply mechanisms and capacities.<br />''<br />''<br />
