With a target of planting one lakh saplings as a part of the promotion of Life Style for Environment (LiFE) initiative, a mega plantation drive at Liktse village in Ladakh concluded yesterday.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Life Style for Environment (LiFE) is a concept introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-26).<br />''&nbsp;<br />''As per the initiative, one lakh saplings were planted, including two varieties of fruits, apricot and apple, and two varieties of trees, willow and poplar, by the villagers and volunteers of two NGO's, namely Live to Love and Young Drukpa Association.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''A local Buddhist spiritual leader, Khamtak Rinpoche, with volunteers from the two NGO's is mobilising the villagers and other stakeholders for the mass plantation drive under his green initiative, Project Tree for Life.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''Lieutenant Governor Brigadier Dr. B. D. Mishra, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh Tashi Gyalson, leaders of different religious communities, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Indian Army Officers, ITBP officers, UT administration, and district officials attended the fifth and final phase of the mega plantation drive. They also participated in the pledge to protect the environment as part of Life Style for Environment (Li FE).<br />''&nbsp;<br />''The plantation drive was sponsored by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, under the land development scheme through its annual district plan of capex budget with an allocation of three crore rupees through the departments of Forest, Rural Development, Irrigation and Flood Control, and Road and Building.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">It is also envisioned to develop a horticulture orchard model in the Rong Churgut block. The final phase also witnessed a cultural programme by popular Kung Fu Nuns.</span><br />
