Ladakh LG e-launches M.O.D.I & Greenhouse Project to steer UT on sustainable path

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur has e-launched Mission Organic Development Initiative (M.O.D.I) and a Greenhouse Project to steer the Union Territory on a sustainable path. Mr Mathur held a special meeting to discuss the roles and functioning of Leh and Kargil Hill Councils yesterday.<br />'' <br />''Mr Mathur laid emphasis on enhancing the abilities of the two Councils to fully utilize their budget and deliver greater benefits to the people of Ladakh.<br />'' <br />''AIR correspondent reports that the 500 crore rupees Mission Organic Development Initiative will be implemented in three phases in Ladakh region, starting with 66 villages in the first phase this year.<br />'' <br />''Another 85 villages will be certified as organic by next three years while in the final phase the rest of 90 villages from both districts' will be declared as organic by 2025. <br />'' <br />''Mr Mathur said that "By converting Ladakh into an organic state, we will be able to achieve the Prime Minister Modi's vision of a Carbon Neutral Ladakh".<br />'' <br />''Organic agriculture produce is also aimed at increasing 40 per cent additional income for the Ladakh farmers.<br />'' <br />''Mathur also launched the Ladakh Greenhouse Project to improve vegetable availability in Ladakh throughout the deep winters. Defence Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR) has researches and developed polycarbonate greenhouse technology with a shelf life of 25 years.<br />'' <br />''The project has been allotted a budget of INR 76.44 crores and is targeting the installation of 1676 greenhouses over a span of two years in Leh and Kargil districts.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">Leh and Kargil CECs Gyal P. Wangyal and Feroz Ahmed Khan, Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal senior UT Administration officials and DIHAR Director Dr O.P. Chaurasia also participated in the Meeting.</span><br />
