In Jammu and Kashmir, the people of cold desert of Ladakh region consisting of two districts of Ladakh and Kargil are struggling for union territory status since a long time due to their unique cultural identity and strategic importance of the area. The people of the region, rising above all political, social and religious affiliations, are united for the UT status for Ladakh. This demand has been further intensified with the submission of the report of the working group on centre-state relations of the state Chief Minister rejecting the UT demand for Ladakh.
