Labour Law: In touch with Saudi govt; will explore solution by grace period says Khurshid

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has said that India is in touch with the Saudi Arabian government over the kingdom's new work policy and would explore all avenues to find a solution during the three months of grace period announced by Riyadh. He was speaking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday.
The Saudi Arabian government had announced a three-month grace period for enforcing its new work policy of Nitaqat law, which would affect thousands of Indian workers there.
He said he too will go to the kingdom later in the month to hold discussions with the Saudi authorities on this issue. Meanwhile, Overseas Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi has convened a meeting of state Ministers tomorrow to discuss the issue. There are 6.5 million Indians in the Gulf, including 2.45 million in Saudi Arabia.
