Labour and Employment minister Mallikarjun Kharge has said that the Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, in the retail sector would help generate employment for people, especially in the unorganised sector. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Mr Kharge said more jobs would result in the increased foreign investment flow into the country's economy. He said organised institutions and manufacturing units from abroad would help in the skill development of the people employed in the unorganised sector and enable them to seek jobs in foreign countries also. He said FDI will give a fillip to the manfacturing and automobile sectors, increase demand for products and spur their quality production.
Earlier, Mr Kharge expressed concern over the non-utilisation of cess for the welfare of labourers and non-implementation of labour-oriented schemes in the states. He said that his ministry has convened a meeting of the State Labour Ministers tomorrow to discuss the issues.
