L. Deepmala Devi wins bronze medal in Asian walking championship

L. Deepmala Devi win a bronze medal in the Asian 20km walking championship held at Nomi City in Japan. Deepmala clocked 1 hour 37 min 44 sec to set a new National record while erasing her previous record of 1 hour 39min set in 2006. Deepmala Devi has been dominating National walking for more than 5 years and her yesterday's performance has boosted her chances of medal for the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi. She had finished 6th in the 2006 CWG at Melbourne.In the men's 20km walk final, National record holder Babubhai Panocha's season opener with 1 hour 25min has raised hope for another medal in the Commonwealth Games. Babubhai Panocha finished on the 4th place with 1 hour 25 minute 52 second. Harminder Singh came 5th with 1 hour 26 minute 27 second. Japan's Fujisawa Isamu won the Gold with 1 hour 20 minute 12 sec while Korea's Young Nam Byun took the silver in 1 hour 22 minute 07 second.
