A court in Kyrgyzstan has sentenced the nephew of ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev to 10 years in prison for instigating the country’s deadly ethnic violence in June. Officials say a district court ruled today that Sanzhar Bakiyev helped organize the riots between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbeks that killed hundreds of people in the southern cities of Osh and Jalalabad. The violence forced some 400,000 people to flee their homes. Weeks after the June riots, the interim government accused former President Bakiyev and his relatives of helping trigger the violence so that he could return to power. Mr. Bakiyev was deposed in a deadly uprising in April.
