Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Kalraj Mishra has announced that KVIC outlets will offer a special 5 percent discount to women for one week to celebrate Women Empowerment. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai today, Mr Mishra said Khadi is pre-dominantly a women oriented sector with 80 to 90 percent of Khadi artisans being women. <br/><br/>In its effort to improve wages of Khadi artisans; Mr Mishra informed that Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has proposed to enhance spinning wages from Rs. 5.50 per hank to Rs. 7 per hank; implying that a Khadi spinner can earn around 200 rupees per day. Mr Mishra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for buying at least one item of Khadi has generated a great response. <br/><br/>Talking about the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme; Mr Mishra said that about 4 lakh micro enterprises have been set up under this programme till date. He said the programme has become a major tool for generating employment in urban and rural areas; adding that it has provided job opportunities to more than 34 lakh people.
