KVIC approves wage hike along with a hike in Market Development Assistance

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has approved a wage hike along with a hike in Market Development Assistance. The KVIC has informed that spinners will now earn 5.50 rupees instead of 4 rupees per hank with an additional 10 percent Market Development Assistance.

This would mean that a spinner earning 100 rupees per day will now earn 152 rupees. Besides an increase in wages per hank, the commission has also decided to levy an amount of 50 rupees on certain high value products such as muslin, silk and Pashmina to augment the earnings of artisans.

This amount will be remitted straight to an artisan's bank account on a monthly basis. These new wages will be effective from 1st April, 2016. This hike comes after the issue was highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech.
