Kuwaiti parliament approves new labour law introducing minimum wages

The Kuwaiti parliament has passed a new labour law that requires the government to introduce a minimum wage for certain jobs, especially in the lower-paid categories, end-of-service bonus, periodical and sick leaves in private sector. Kuwait is home to nearly 23 lakh foreign workers including large number of Indians. According to Kuwait’s official news agency KUNA, this was announced by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mohammad Al-Afasi in a press conference yesterday after the vote. Terming the new law as a historic achievement, the Social Affairs and Labor minister said the new law ensures a just and fair balance between the interests of the employer and the employee.
