Mr. Govind Singh Kunjwal of Congress was elected as the new Speaker of the Uttarakhand Assembly on Monday. The BJP too had fielded former speaker Harbans Kapoor for the post. AIR correspondent reports that this was the first time that elections for the post of Speaker were held in the hill state. The Budget session begins from Tuesday with the Governor’s address.
