K'taka villages with over 2k populace to have banking facility by 2012

In Karnataka, all the villages with a population of over 2000 will have banking facility by March 2012.The Chairman of State Level Bankers Committee Basant Seth informed this in the Committee meeting today. He said there are 3395 villages with a population of over 2000 in the state and 756 villages among them does not have banking facilities now.Seth has asked banks to appoint Business Correspondents in these villages by March next year. He also informed that more than 6000 villages having less than 2000 population does not have banking facility.He said payments to beneficiaries under 32 schemes funded by Government of India will be made electronically. He noted that Bidar, Chamrajnagar, Gulbarga, Bangalore rural, Koppal and Raichur districts in the state are under-banked.Seth informed that a special campaign will be launched from December first to 15th in all the banks for lending loans to eligible borrowers in rural areas.He requested the State administration to associate with banks in recovery drives to reduce the Non-performing assets level.
