In Karnataka State Road Transport and city transport workers on indefinite strike today. This has affected transport service throughout the State. The workers Federation has put forth 41 demands including 30 percent hike in salary and regularisation of 33,000 trainee workers. Incidents of stone pelting have been reported from some parts of the state.This has totally paralyzed the bus service. The strike has been termed as illegal . The commuters were put to harship since today morning due to State transport workers strike. There was increased demand for autos and other mode of transport. All bus depots had heavy police presence to prevent any untoward incident. The Joint Committee of Trade Unions of Karnataka State Road Transport, which has called the strike has demanded that the management must consult them before deciding wage revisions. However the management argues that State Transport employees get the highest salaries in south India. With the 10 percent hike last August, the Corporation is incurring an expenditure of 880 crore rupees. There are more than one lakh workers in the State transport Corporation.
