The Karnataka Government has released more than 31 crore rupees during 2011-12 for providing drinking water under Multi Village programme of Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking water scheme.Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shetter informed this in his written reply in the Assembly today. He said action is being taken to complete 189 schemes.Shivalingegowda, the MLA from Arasikere who had sought the answer in the House pointed out that fluoride in water has posed greater threat in his region and maintenance of water projects is another problem.The Minister replied that fluoride issue is being tackled by supply of surface water and the management policy is being re-looked. He added that those contractors who execute water supply projects will be given the responsibility of maintaining them for the next five years.
