K’taka HC grants conditional bail to Sampangi

Karnataka High Court has granted conditional bail to the BJP MLA Y Sampangi who was convicted by Lokayuktha court and imprisoned under the Prevention of Corruption Act for receiving bribe. The High court has also suspended three and a half years sentence of imprisonment. Judge Jagannathan issued the orders today and posted the hearing of the case on 18 the June 18. Y Sampangi’s counsel has sought suspension of order of conviction issued by the lower court. The High court has asked the accused to furnish a bond of one lakh rupees, a penalty of 90,000 rupees and two surieties with an assurance that he will not leave the country and present himself in the court whenever called for. Y Sampangi was caught red handed while accepting bribe of 45,000 rupees and a cheque for four lakh fifty thousand in his chamber at Legislature House based on the complaint by businessman Hussein Moyeen Faruq in 2009.
