In Karnataka, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has tendered his resignation as the leader of the Opposition in legislative Assembly. Speaking to media persons in Bangalore today, Siddaramaiah said that the party did not consult him while selecting candidates for the Council election, which he said shows that the Congress has no confidence in him. He said there is no meaning in continuing in the post under such circumstances.In an unexpected development Mr. Siddaramaiah has resigned from his post. He had joined Congress after quitting Janatha Dal(S) in 2006. He had also associated with AHINDA, an organisation for the backward classes. Today’s development comes after his several expressions of displeasure over the way he is being treated in the party. After the declaration of resignation, several Congress leaders met him seeking withdrawal of resignation. Siddaramaiah however has stood his ground but promised to continue to work for the success of the party candidate in the council election scheduled next week.
