Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka, leader of the Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah have asked the people of the north-eastern region not to panic and leave Bangalore. The Deputy Chief Minister holding Home portfolio asserted that a system will be created to prevent spreading the Assam incident phobia everywhere. He informed that 6,800 people from the north-east left Bangalore last night by special trains.Director General of Police Mr.Lalrokhuma Pachau met community members along with a few MLAs of Bangalore and assured them of police protection. He appealed to them not to heed to rumours. The Government has appointed Bangalore Deputy Commissioner of police (intelligence) Vincent S. D’Souza to receive complaints of threats against people of North East Region in the state. Two helpline numbers 080-2225-0999 and 080-2294-2222 are also started to receive complaints. The nodal officer D’Souza has said that patrolling is intensified around colleges, offices and other public places where north eastern people reside or frequent regularly.
