In Karnataka, senior legislators of BJP continue to hold discussions with central party leaders to elect Jagadish Shettar as state legislative party leader. Due to hectic political parleys, the meeting scheduled to start early in the day, has not begun so far. Senior BJP leaders Arun Jaitely and Rajnath Singh are holding talks with the leaders of the party for smooth transition of leadership in Bangalore. The party has decided to formally elect Jagdish Shetter as the leader of the Legislature party. The BJP spokesperson C T Ravi said the leaders are thrashing out differences within the party and everything will be settled amicably. The MLA from Mysore, Shankarlinge Gowda said that their faction is demanding Deputy Chief Minister's post and some important portfolios. Our Correspondent adds that the scheduled time for legislative party meeting will be known once the talks with the Central leaders concludes. Our correspondent reports that the situation remains muddled within the BJP in the state as different factions remain firm on their respective demand regarding sharing of portfolios. Different groups of BJP legislators were seen engrossed in discussion in the CM’s official residence, in hotels where the Central leaders are staying and in the venue of legislative party meeting.
According to the earlier plan the legislative party meeting had to start after 10.00 am. Taking one line resolution to appoint Jagadish Shetter as the new leader, he and the outgoing Chief Minister Sadanand Gowda had to meet the Governor. According to media reports the swearing has to take place tomorrow. But going by the political atmosphere within the party at present, it is difficult to say as to when the legislative party meeting will be held today.
