Krishna wraps up Nepal visit

Indian External Affairs Minister, Mr. S.M.Krishna wrapped up his three day visit to Nepal after a meeting with the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Mr. Subhash Nemwang and members of different political parties represented in the constituent assembly in Kathmandu this afternoon. Talking to newsmen before his departure for New Delhi, Mr. Krishna said he was fully satisfied with the outcome of the visit. The minister said he was happy to meet representatives of different political parties and held wide ranging discussions with them on different aspects and how India could assist in Nepal’s developmental activities. In reply to a question, the External Affairs Minister said, India wish that Nepal would be able to draft its new constitution by the scheduled date of 28th May this year, but emphasized that it is for Nepal to decide what kind of constitution it wanted.<br/>AIR Correspondent reports that the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister Mr. Krishna was observed with keen interest as the Himalayan nation is passing through a transitional period struggling with the important task of consolidating a new democratic structure through drafting of a new constitution by the constituent assembly. The visit was the first by any high level Indian leader to Nepal after the CPN(UML) led coalition government assumed power in May last year following the resignation of the Maoist led government on the army chief row.
