Krishna meets IBSA leaders; agree on expansion of UN-SC

The External Affairs Minister S. M Krishna on Tuesday met with his counterparts from Brazil and South Africa in New York to discuss the UN Security Council reforms. The IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) meeting was hosted by Brazil on the sidelines of the 64th session of the UN General Assembly. All three nations of the IBSA support the expansion of the United Nations Security Council. At the meeting, the IBSA ministers reiterated the urgent need for the expansion of the Security Council in both the permanent and non-permanent seats to increase the participation of developing countries. Noting the progress of the inter-governmental negotiations on Security Council during the previous session of the General Assembly, the leaders stressed on the need to reach concrete results in the current 64th session of the UN. The External Affairs Minister, Mr. Krishna also met Amre Moussa, the Chief of the League of Arab States, and held discussions on the situation in the Middle East.
