Krishna discusses current situation of Nepal with Koirala

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna today held talks with his Nepalese counterpart Sujata Koirala in Thimphu this afternoon on issues of bilateral interest between the two countries. <br/><br/>Talking to AIR Correspondent in Thimphu this afternoon, Nepalese Foreign Minister said the discussions between them were focused on current situation in Nepal, the peace process and drafting of the new constitution. <br/><br/>Describing the current political situation in Nepal as critical, Sujata Koirala said political parties are holding discussions on whether to continue the current constituent assembly or make alternative arrangements. She said her party -Nepali Congress is in favor of a national government to solve the current political stalemate and urged the Maoist, the largest party in the constituent assembly to join the government, as it would be difficult to draft the new statute without their support. <br/><br/>The Nepalese Foreign Minister said India has always helped Nepal and given it the moral support, saying that a stable Nepal is in the interest of India. <br/><br/>Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala arrived in Kathmandu yesterday while the Indian External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna arrived in Thimphu this morning to take part in the SAARC summit.
