External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna today called for infusing new vigor in the India-Africa relations to take them to a new high. Replying questions during an inter action with African journalists in New Delhi, he said the multifaceted relations have to be strengthened with a focus on cultural ties and people-to-people contact. Krishna said that the two countries have taken a number of initiatives in 2008. These include provision of 20,000 scholarships to African students in five years time, a Pan-African e-network and centres of excellence. Krishna said India has already extended a fresh two billion dollars line of credit to these countries. Seeking support of the people and the media to strengthen India-Africa relations, he asserted that a joint action plan prepared by the two countries particularly capacity building, human resource infrastructure development have to be the areas of priority.
