Kosi flood threat: Centre prepares a contingency plan to meet any eventuality

The Crisis Management Committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, met in New Delhi today to review the flood situation in Bihar following a landslide and blockage in Kosi river which originates in Nepal. The committee has prepared a contigency plan to meet any eventuality and is monitoring the situation there. An expert team has already been sent to assess the prevailing situation. 15 satellite phones have been provided to the State government. The committee, through video conference, urged Bihar Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh to coordinate rescue and relief steps.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi , who is currently in Nepal, was concerned over the situation. He asked officials that all help should be rendered to Bihar as well as Nepal to meet any eventuality.

Earlier today, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the flood situation in Bihar. Talking to reporters after the meeting, he said the government will provide all assistance to the State. He said he talked to Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh who apprised him of the prevailing situation.

Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad will brief the press at 3 pm on the steps taken by the Centre to mitigate Kosi flood situation.
