North Korea has called for a cancellation of joint naval exercises by South Korea and the United States, labelling them a threat to global peace. A spokesman for the North Korean delegation at ASEAN meetings has said this move will also jeopardize the country’s return to de-nuclearisation talks. Mr. Ri Dong-il told reporters in Hanoi the US and South Korean decision to hold joint military exercises was a major danger. He said such movements pose a great threat not only to the peace and security of the Korean peninsula but also to global peace and security.
