The Minster of State in Prime Minister Office Mr. V. Narayanswamy has said that Koodankulam nuclear power project will begin by the coordinated efforts of the Centre and the state government. Talking to newsmen in Chennai on Sunday, the Minister appealed to the protestors to come forward for discussions as the Centre and the state committee were ready to discuses the issue. Denying media reports that the protest were on foreign funding, he questioned the prolong agitation of the protesting groups.
When former President Dr. APJ Kalam visited the plant recently, he was satisfied with the safety aspects of the plant. The Minister said there was no need to worry about the plant.
Mr. Narayanswamy also said that when our neighbouring countries – Pakistan and China are building nuclear reactors, it would be necessary for our country also to have safest nuclear energy. He hoped that the stalemate would end soon.
