Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant to be safest 3rd generation reactor

Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant under construction in Tamil Nadu will be the safest third generation reactor with multiple safety features. Former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Prof.M R Srinivasan gave this assurance while speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of a National Summit on Quality in Education, in Bangalore on Friday.Prof.Srinivasan said the reactor under construction in Koodankulam has four parallel safety features, passive safety system and better grid connectivity, making it the safest reactor in the world. Refuting rumours that the reactor will displace people and impact fishing, the nuclear scientist stressed that it will not only provide 2000 mega watt of electricity to the grid but also improve the living condition of people residing in the area by providing them better education, health facilities and easy accessible market. He also pointed out that lessons learnt from Fukushima like disasters are factored in Koodamkulam reactor, which is built in a zone safe from earthquake and tsunami.
