Konkan Railway gets ACD Patent for its ‘Track Identification System’

Konkan Railway has been granted Anti Collision Device (ACD) Patent in United States of America for its ‘Track Identification System’, recently.

Patent is in addition to the ACD Patents which have already been granted to Konkan Railway in India and abroad earlier. The main functioning of ‘Track Identification System’ is to ensure that when a train fitted with Anti-Collision Device (ACD), traverses a points and crossing zone of the station yard (from where it can switch from one track to another), this unique ‘Track Identification System’ residing in it (using its GPS receiver’s course angle of travel with respect to true north of the earth) will detect automatically, whether the train has deviated to other track or not. ‘Anti Collision Device Network’ is capable of preventing -‘Head-on’ and ‘rear-end’ collisions in mid-sections, Collisions at ‘high speed’ in ‘station area’, ‘Side collisions’ with derailed vehicles obstructing adjacent line, Collisions due to ‘train parting / jumbling’ Collisions with ‘road vehicles’ at level crossing through ‘Train Approach’ warning and detection of ‘Gate Open’. Loco ACDs also give ‘Station Approach’ warning to drivers. This pilot project of ACD system, which was developed by Konkan Railway, was commissioned in Northeast Frontier Railway in June 2007.

The Ministry of Railways has now assigned the work of installation of ACD Network initially on other Three Railways viz South Western Railway, South Central Railway and Southern Railway.

The winning of the patent of Anti Collision Device adds another feather to the cap of Konkan Railway as it has to its credit 18 Patents granted for Sky Bus, Anti Collision Device and Track Identification System in India and abroad viz United States, Singapore, China and Russia.
