Kolkata market fire: toll rises to 19; WB govt orders high level probe

The death toll in the Kolkata fire has risen to 19 so far.The West Bengal government has ordered a high level probe into the fire accident that broke out at Surya Sen market at early hours today. After visiting the spot , Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee announced a compensation of two lakh rupees to the families of each victim and 50,000 rupees each to the injured.Our correspondent reports, 25 fire tenders brought the flame under control after battling for nearly five hours.The Chief Minister said that the enquiry committee will submit its report within next three days and government will take action to check recurrence of such incidents after getting the inquiry report. Meanwhile, postmortem of bodies are also on at Medical college hospital and Nilratan Sarkar hospital in Kolkata. All the victims died due to burn injuries in hospitals. The extent of damage of properties is yet to be ascertained.
