Kolkata Knight Riders will clash with Mumbai Indians this evening in the opening match of the 8th Indian Premier League Twenty-20 cricket tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The match will begin at 8 PM. The Knight Riders are entering this tournament as the defending champions.A dazzling opening ceremony was held at the Salk Lake Stadium in Kolkata last night after which the competition was declared open. The eight skippers led by Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni signed the Marylebone Cricket Club's or MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge to formally start the tournament. Top Bollywood actors, then, took centre stage enthralling the thousands of drenched fans present at the Stadium.The eight teams, featuring top international players, will be involved in an intense battle in the 47-day long tournament. A total of 60 matches will be played. The final is slated for the 24th of next month at the Eden Gardens.
