Kolkata, Hyderabad put on high alert after terror threat

Security has been beefed up in Kolkata and adjoining areas. This follows an alert by the union Home Ministry to the West Bengal state government about possible terror strikes in the city and in adjoining areas. <br/><br/>Security has been beefed up mainly at the Kolkata Airport and the iconic Kali Temple at Kalighat in the city. The Director General of West Bengal Police Mr. Bhupender Singh said, the forces will be equipped enough to face any eventuality.<br/><br/>In Andhra Pradesh, high alert was sounded in Hyderabad following inputs from the central intelligence agencies terror activities in the city. <br/><br/>City Police have conducted thorough search operations at public places including Railway and Bus stations, market areas and crowded malls and cinema theatres. All police stations in the city have been alerted and leave of police personnel cancelled till May 18, the third anniversary of the bomb blast at historic Mecca Masjid, in which 9 persons were killed.
