Kokrajhar Violence: Assam seeks 10 additional companies of Para-military forces

The Assam government has sought 10 additional companies of Para-military force from the Centre in the wake of recent violence in Kokrajhar. Speaking to AIR, state Home secretary G D Tripathi said, government required additional companies to intensify search operation against illegal arms. So far 17 illegal arms have been recovered by security forces in Kokrajhar district.

Mr.Tripathi said that stern actions are being taken against miscreants and state government is committed to control the situation. So far at least 60 miscreants were arrested in Kokrajhar district. The death toll has gone up to 10 and eight persons were injured in recent violence of Kokrajhar.

Security forces this morning arrested Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Council and leader of Bodoland Peoples Front, which is coalition partner of ruling Congress government in the state, Mono Kumar Brahma from Kokrajhar for his alleged involvement in violence. Police recovered two AK rifles, two magazines and 60 rounds ammunitions from him.

Meanwhile, indefinite curfew continues in entire Kokrajhar district for third day today. Senior police officials are camping in the district to oversee law and order situation.

Army is staging flag march since Thursday and 65 companies of Central Para-military forces maintained strict vigil. Security personnel have also been deployed at 128 fixed pickets.
