Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda has been asked by the Income Tax (IT) Department to pay
1300 crore as tax within 30 days.

The notice was served through the jail authorities of the Birsa Munda Central Jail at Ranchi where Mr. Koda is lodged since November 2009.

The Income Tax notice has been given on a basis of assessment that Mr. Koda has hidden rupees three thousand three hundred crore. This had come to light after seizures of documents in a countrywide IT raids at 70 premises in October 2009.

Mr. Koda is also facing prosecutions by the CBI for amassing disproportionate assets and another by the Enforcement Directorate for money laundering.
