The Unit-1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant in Tamilnadu is likely to be commissioned by this month end. The expenditure incurred on the project upto October 2012 is one lakh fifty one thousand and sixty one crore rupees. Giving this information in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State in PMO V. Narayanasamy said fuel has been loaded in the Unit-1 and it is ready for operation. The process of its commissioning would begin after clearance from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. In reply to a question, the Minister said apprehensions about the safety and livelihood of people living around the plant have been addressed by the expert group of eminent persons set up by the Centre and through public outreach programme using a multi-pronged approach.
