Government has ruled out any intervention to bailout the cash strapped Kingfisher airlines or its employees as it is a private enterprise and the government cannot take a proactive role in such a situation.Talking to reporters in New Delhi today civil aviation minister Ajit Singh said,Kingfisher employees do not come under any ministry as the airline is a private enterprise and the government’s only role in Kingfisher is to ensure passenger safety. He added that given the current job scenario, it will be difficult to find jobs for the airline’s staff if the former shuts down completely. He was not very optimistic about any investors for the airline either as the due diligence process would takes months.
Civil Aviation Minister reiterated that it is very difficult for Kingfisher,if not impossible, to fly again even if the airline manages to pay off its dues to the employees. Given the airline’s massive debt, it is unlikely the airline can pay for aviation turbine fuel , which constitutes over 40 percent of an airline’s operating costs or any other aviation taxes.
The DGCA has already suspended the airline’s flying licence and if it needs to fly again, the airlines needs cash right now.
On Monday, the airline’s management said it was willing to pay three months’ salary, in a staggered manner before Diwali, and the offer has reportedly split the protesting staff over the matter. Most of the engineers are still holding out demanding at least four months’ salary immediately. The management has asked the employees to respond to its offer by 26thof this October.
