In Kerala, an agreement was executed at the Lok Adalat in Kochi today on the ex gratia to be paid to the kin of the two fishermen who were shot dead by Italian marines on board the vessel Enrica Lexie. As per the agreement the two fishermen families will receive one crore rupees each from the Italian government.
The Government of Italy was respresented by its Consul General in Mumbai Giampaolo Cutillo. As per the settlement , wife and two children of Jelastine, one of the fishermen killed will get 33,33,333 rupees each, while the two minor sisters of Ajeesh Pink, the other fisherman killed, will get 50 lakh rupees each.
With the Italian government coming forward for an out of court settlement, the Kerala High Court had referred the compensation case to the Lok Adalat last week. The agreement reached between the two parties will be placed before the High Court for ratification.
