In UAE, the Sharjah Court of Appeals was informed during hearing on Wednesday that a preliminary understanding had been reached by the Indian community with the family of the deceased Pakistani who was allegedly killed by 17 Indians. The possibility of an amicable solution to the issue has brightened with the news of reaching an understanding between both sides on the payment of compensation, which is called blood money. According to a statement of Indian Consulate, the Court would now convene on 27th July to receive the pardon papers and meet other formalities after this important development. The Founder President of the Indian Punjabi Society S P Singh Oberoi, who has offered to pay the blood money told AIR in Dubai that a letter has been produced in the court to confirm that an off-the-court settlement for the payment of eight crore Pakistani rupees has been reached.In its statement, the Indian Consulate has said that the Government of India respects the local judicial process and is fully cognizant of the accepted judicial practices. The statement added that Consulate has no objection to the path of compromise, which is an accepted judicial norm, invoked by the community on behalf of the accused. On March 18, 2010 the Sharjah Court of First Instance pronounced the death sentence on 17 Indian nationals, who were accused of killing a Pakistani national in January 2009. The convicts, 16 from the Punjab and one from Haryana, were found guilty by the Sharjah Shariah Court of killing a Pakistani national and injuring three of his compatriots.
