Killing in BTAD: Assam govt formally asks Home Ministry to hand over cases to NIA

The Assam government has formally asked the Union Home Ministry to hand over the cases to the NIA into the recent killing in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts, BTAD.

AIR Guwahati correspondent quoting official sources said that senior NIA officials are likely to visit the state tomorrow to study the cases. The source also said that the process is being expedited due to the urgency of the situation.

Meanwhile, 18 persons including women and children, who were victims of the violence, were burried today in Baksa district. Miscreants killed them at Narayanguri area on Friday.

IGP, L R Bishnoi said that security forces have foiled nefarious design of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit group) in Udalguri district today. He said that police killed one cadre who planned to attack civilian at Besimari area. Bishnoi further said that two bodies were recovered today at Dumnighat area under Barpeta Road police station.

AIR correspondent reports, normalcy is returning back to the violent hit Baksa and Kokrajhar district. No untoward incident has been reported during past two days .

But curfew continues in Baksa and Kokrajhar district as a precautionary measure while it was relaxed in Chirang for six hours. Assam police has registered five cases and arrested 30 miscreants in connection with killing of civilians. A strong vigil is being maintained by the security forces. State Home department sources said that one Inspector General level officer of NIA is likely to visit Assam tomorrow to take stock of the incidents.
