Khurshid to LS: HC’s across India dispose off over 6 lakh pending cases last yr

Law Minister Salman Khurshid infromed the Lok Sabha today that various High Courts across the country disposed off over 6 lakh pending cases last year. Out of these, 1 lakh 36 thousand cases related to senior citizens, disabled, minors and marginalised sections of society. In a written answer, he said the Centre has launched a drive for speedy disposal of cases in various High Courts. The High Court Chief Justices have been requested to clear the long-pending cases and give preference to cases relating to the marginalised sections of the society. Mr.Kurshid said a similar drive has been undertaken from July to December this year as well. The Centre is trying to increase the number of judges in the judiciary by filling up the existing vacancies and creating additional posts for an expeditious disposal of pending cases.
