Khurshid reiterates India’s commitment to resolve issues concerning Teesta water agreement with Bangladesh

Union Minister for Law, Justice and Minority Affairs Mr. Salman Khurshid today reiterated New Delhi’s commitment to resolve all issues to facilitate the signing of an agreement with Bangladesh on sharing the Teesta River water. Interacting with reporters in Dhaka today, Mr. Khurshid said that the issue was being treated with highest priority and the government is working towards taking all stakeholders on board on the Teesta issue so that the two countries can move forward quickly.

Responding to reporter's questions on the implementation of the 1974 Land Boundary Agreement and the related protocols, Mr.Khurshid said that work is underway to ratify the agreement in parliament through a constitutional amendment. Earlier in the morning two day India- Bangladesh joint celebration of the 90th anniversary of the publication of the poem Bidrohi by Kazi Nazul Islam was inaugurated in Dhaka by Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina in which Union Minister for Law, Justice and Minority Affairs, Mr. Salman Khurshid was the guest of honour.

Later Mr.Khurshid who is leading a delegation of three members of parliament also paid floral tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and Bangladesh's National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam memorial in Dhaka University.
