Khurshid: No stand off between India & US over Devyani Khobragade issue

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid today said, New Delhi will remain in conversation with Washington over Devyani Khobragade issue. Mr Khurshid said, there are certain issues of domestic laws and India's understanding of the Vienna Convention on consular rights will remain.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr Khurshid added there is no stand off between India and the United States over the issue.

Meanwhile, the United States has regretted that India felt it necessary to expel an American diplomat after diplomat Devyani Khobragade was asked to leave the country following her indictment in a visa fraud case.

The State Department spokesman Jen Psaki said in Washington yesterday that this has clearly been a challenging time in the US-India relationship and the US expected that India will take significant steps to improve the ties and return to a more constructive place.

Khobragade, who was indicted for visa fraud and making false statements by a grand jury in the US returned New Delhi last night.
