Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid has submitted his reply to the Election Commission to the notice served on him for alleged violation of model code of conduct. In his reply, Mr. Khurshid said that he did not violate model code of conduct by promising nine percent quota to Muslims, if his party is voted to power in the coming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
It is learnt that Mr. Khurshid in his reply argued that promising nine percent quota was the part of Congress party's poll manifesto.
Mr. Khurshid's reply to the EC notice will be taken up today at a full meeting of the Election Commission to be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi.
The Election Commission had on January 10 served a show-cause notice on Mr Khurshid for alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct during campaigning in Farukhabad.
