Union minister for law and justice and minority affairs Salman Khursheed has said that the sub quota for the backward minorities under 27 per cent quota for the backward classes has been misunderstood. Addressing All India Waqf Board Conference in Bhopal today, he said that the government has not taken decision in haste on reservation to the backward minorities and Supreme Court has not given its final verdict on the matter yet. He said that a regular bench of Supreme Court will begin hearing on this issue in July.
Mr. Khursheed said that the government will soon introduced Waqf bill in the parliament. It will pave the way for Central Waqf Development Organization. Under it waqf property will be given on lease for 30 years for establishing educational and medical institutions, hospitals and commercial establishments.
