Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh has expressed happiness over the return of diplomat Devyani Khobragade to India.

Meanwhile, Khobragade's father Uttam Khobragade has thanked the Government and the media for their continuous support to Devyani.Talking to reporters in New Delhi today Mr. Khobragade hoped that his daughter will get justice as charges against her are false.

Our correspondent reports that Devyani Khobragade, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York, was accorded the privileges and immunities of a diplomatic envoy on 8th of this month.

However, the U.S. had requested India to waive the immunity of Khobragade but New Delhi declined to do so and transferred her to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Before her departure for India,Khobragade reiterated her innocence on charges filed against her.

She also affirmed her determination to ensure that the episode would not leave a lasting impact on her family.

Khobragade was indicted by a US grand jury for visa fraud and allegedly making false statements yesterday.
