The Khelo India University Games – 2023, Ashtalakshmi started at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati with the Kabaddi event on Saturday.
The official inauguration ceremony of the Games will be held on 19th February in Guwahati in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part virtually and Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports will attend the event in Guwahati.
The league matches of Kabaddi event for both Men's and Women's started today where 16 Teams of different universities are competing.
Mangalore University defeated Shri JJT University in the Men's Kabaddi and Guru Kashi University beat Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila University in the Women's Kabaddi inaugural league matches.
Out of 20, a total of 16 sporting disciplines are scheduled to be held in Guwahati and the rest at other North Eastern states. The event will be organised at 18 venues in 7 cities during 11 days duration where around 4500 athletes are expected to participate in 20 sporting disciplines. Over 215 universities are participating in this mega university event.
The Khelo India University Games – 2023, Ashtalakshmi will conclude on 29th February, 2024.
