Khandu cremated with full state honours

Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu was cremated with full state honours in Tawang this morning. Dorjee Khandu and four other persons had died in a chopper crash in Tawang on 30th of last month. The cremation was according to traditions of the Buddhist Monpa community. More than seven thousand people turned up to attend the last rites of their leader at Khandu’s ancestral home in Shepedung in Tawang. A massive funeral was also carried out from the residence of the former Chief Minister at Lemberdung to Shepedung where the cremation was held. Arunachal’s new Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, his cabinet colleagues and several union ministers and senior Congress leaders were present on the occasion.AIR correspondent reports, Khandu’s body was consigned to flames amidst the chanting of mantras by Buddhist lamas. Heart rendering scenes were witnessed at the cremation ground as the people bade adieu to their beloved leader.
