The Key domestic indices ended with gains even most global share markets were negative. The BSE Sensex rose 204 points, or 0.48 percent, to end at 66,174. The NSE Nifty gained 95 points, or 0.31 percent, to settle at 19,890.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose by 0.30 percent and the Small-cap index added 0.06 percent.
In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 22 companies appreciated while eight companies declined. Tata Motors jumped 3.56 percent, Bajaj Finserv rose by 2.32 percent and Ultra Cement added 2.14 percent.
On the other hand, ITC declined 0.58 percent, Sun Pharma fell 0.42 percent and ICICI Bank lost 0.33 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, 15 sectors gained while five witnessed losses. Utilities jumped 3.64 percent, the Power sector gained 3.47 percent and Oil & Natural Gas rose by 3.13 percent.
On the other side, the Healthcare sector declined 0.27 percent, Capital Goods fell 0.17 percent and FMCG slipped 0.15 percent.
The overall market breadth was positive, as the shares of 1,906 companies appreciated while those of 1,894 declined. A total of 172 companies remain unchanged.
